22-26th June, England. Perhaps the most epic music festival on the planet. Glastonbury is certainly world renowned for its incredible line-ups and immense scale and over the last few years has become synonymous with rain, mud and the best 5 days of your life. If you haven't got a ticket there is a final chance to see the likes of Coldplay and U2 headlining the Pyramid stage this June. Check out the Glastonbury website for more details of the event (http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/). If you can get a ticket, you have to go!!
29th June - 3rd July, Henley, England. A classic old school English rowing race. Competitors compete throughout the day on a 2112 metre course along the Thames, however the rowing is often a sideline to a rather spiffing riverside party that continues to grow as the lesser talented rowers bow out of the competition. It's a great day of quintessential British partying and an even better excuse to polish off a few glasses of Pimms.
2nd July & 16th August, Sienna, Italy. Riders from the 17 'contrade' (quarters) of Vienna, bearing representational colours come together to compete in a hair-raising, bi-annual, bareback horse race around the city's Piazza del Campo. The race is preceded by a magnificent pageant which has become a major tourist attraction for spectators who gather from around the globe. The race itself (3 laps around the Piazza) usually only lasts about 90 seconds but will often result in riders being flung from their steads met by rapturous applause from the crowds. Definitely a sight worth seeing.
31st August, Bunol, Spain. Climbing greasy poles to reach a ham, water fights and tomato chaos! Sound fun? Well the ancient Tomatina festival in the Valencien town of Bunol is exactly that! Get prepared for an hour of full blown, semi naked, tomato launching action. The streets of this normally sleepy little town flow red with tomato juice on the last Wednesday of August every year. Get yourself a cheap flight and get out there!
The last 2 weeks in September, Ibiza. After a full summer of partying, the 'White Isle' prepares to close it's doors on the dance scene for another year. The closing parties of clubs like Space and Amnesia are respected as some of the craziest dance based parties on the planet. If you are after mind-blowing sunsets, all night dancing and lots of beautiful people the closing parties are a 'must do' this summer.
